REPORT | Widnes Vikings 6 Dons 26

The Dons made it three consecutive wins in the Betfred Championship with victory over Widnes Vikings at the DCBL Stadium.

Richard Horne's side were in control at the break and deservedly led after the opening 40 minutes thanks to tries from Bureta Faraimo, James Glover and Luis Johnson.

Glover and Faraimo both added further tries in the second half to make it a brace a piece, and the Dons saw out the rest of the match professionally to take the spoils back to South Yorkshire.
Horne named an unchanged starting XIII to the side that started in the emphatic win at Halifax Panthers three days earlier as the side looked to find consistency on the road after an extended period without a game prior to the trip to West Yorkshire.
The Dons came into the fixture with haunting memories of the last time they faced a three-day turnaround before a game, against Barrow Raiders at home, but any nerves of a repeat were very quickly dashed.
On four minutes, Horne's men made the most of back-to-back penalties inside the Widnes ten and went from left to right to find Faraimo, who raced in to score at the corner for an early lead.
And five minutes later, matters got even better for the visitors. Connor Robinson produced a clever bouncing kick forward, and Glover beat his man to latch onto it and ground to the left. Robinson added the extras. 0-10.
The Vikings came into the game over the course of the next quarter of an hour, but the away side defended well to keep the hosts out on a number of occasions.
Matty Fozard was sin-binned for Widnes on 31 minutes, just as they looked to be finding a foothold in the game.
And the Dons utilised their advantage to add to their point-scoring tally just 60 seconds later. Horne's men went from left to right again and this time found Johnson, who stepped over the line with ease to score. Robinson converted.
The home side were awarded a number of penalties inside the five minutes immediately before the interval, but the Dons held firm to hold a 0-16 lead at half time.
It was a fairly slow start to the second half, but the Dons furthered their advantage on the scoreboard after 50 minutes. Edene Gebbie broke away on the left and linked up with Glover, who eventually raced clear to ground and score behind the post for his personal brace. Robinson successfully converted.
And 14 minutes on, Faraimo made it a brace for himself as well. The winger picked up the offload a matter of yards out from the try line and bundled his way over to put the away side 26 points in front.
The Dons were in firm and total control, but Widnes looked to finish strongly in search of a late consolation try, and they found one. The football was worked out to the right, and the home side found Ryan Ince, who found his way in to mark the scoresheet for the hosts with four minutes of the 80 left to play. Danny Richardson added the extras.
The Vikings pushed to make further inroads on the scoreline late on, but the visitors saw out the remaining time resolutely to take a 20-point victory and a thoroughly deserved two points.
Dons: Holmes, Faraimo, Boas, Glover, Gebbie, Aston, Robinson, Knowles, Burns, Mustapha, Sutcliffe, Johnson, J. Jones. Interchanges: McConnell, Misky, Hepi, Ashworth.
